I guess I expected more. Bigger portions. Maybe a waiter or waitress or some sort of signage explaining the process. The food was rather bland and we... read more!
Review of Captain's BBQ by Greg from Palm Coast
I've been a local since the 70's and I've tried Captain's Bar-B-Que 3 times now. I am originally from N. Florida and I KNOW Bar-B-Que! It should be soft and falling off the bone! I hope you like standing in line because that's the deal here, and then someone brings your order after you finally find a seat.
Captain's is honestly the DRIEST Bar-B-Que I have EVER had! Except for at The Anchor, and even there the waiter wouldn't let me pay, but Captains didn't offer a refund, and when I said how unhappy I was the LAST time, the manager just said, "Oh let us know, when you come in next time and we will make sure your meat is good." - WOW!
Both the Chicken and the Ribs were DRY DRY DRY. I have seen good reviews but those people MUST be from the North and not know what they should expect of great Bar-B-Que. It was originally a tiny Bait House, so there's the history.
They smoke it all on a timer and the staff just check and turn it on the timer, and NOT by looking at it - huge mistake. The Best things they have are the desserts and iced tea.

Order your BBQ and find a spot on one of the many picnic tables around the landing and park area. The view and setting make the BBQ taste great and go down even better. Their dinner plates are a feast and I really love the collard green sides. Apparently this is one of the top 10 BBQ's in the country and happy it's here in Palm Coast.

The bait bucket is a funny name, but a flavor explosion in your mouth! This restaurant is casual, you can sit outside and view Bings landing while you eat, but don't expect fine wine. This place has ruined me for barbecue anywhere else (other than my husbands); no more Sonny or Woody ever!

Location is great. Otherwise save your money. No ribs the last two visits and I called first to make sure. Smoking D's much better.

The staff is friendly, the service is good and fast. The barbecue and sauces are delicious, The deserts are fantastic but the sides are not as good as expected. I have eaten there twice but I am not sure I'll return.

Have eaten there four times. Barbecue very good but occasionally a little dry. Sauces are good. Ample food for the price. Service friendly and prompt. Will definitely return.

The best BBQ around. You get big portions, food is awesome. This is more of a place to take to go, than to eat in. You can eat in but no atmosphere.

Great Food...That's really all that matters when eating out. Nice View of the water. You order at the counter/ pick up your food at the cooks window. Brisket is my first meal I order to find a good/great BBQ place, and I Loved it! Meaty Chili, good Coleslaw, etc. We have not had a bad order of food here yet.

I guess I expected more. Bigger portions. Maybe a waiter or waitress or some sort of signage explaining the process. The food was rather bland and we ended up eating outside even though it was kind of chilly because the inside smelled like dead fish.

I'm not sure where "Paul" was eating, but I don't think it was Captains. First of all, you order at the counter, or at least that's what I've always done. Then you pick up your delicious food at the window when they call your name. It's a bbq joint, not a fine dining experience. I suggest the brisket tacos. They're awesome. Finally, you have a seat facing the water while enjoying a cold beverage and some good barbeque. What's wrong with that? Give Captains a try, especially if you're looking for somewhere to go by boat.

I've Had Better...Much Better. Have been meaning to go here since they opened. Finally went and I'm sorry I did. Poor Excuse for Barbecue..very poor. Service was horrible. Waiter was rude.. like he was doing me a favor by taking my order. The food was overcooked and very tasteless. I had better Barbecue at a railroad station in Chicago than this. I just saved myself some money by not going back.

Visited for the first time and really enjoyed it! This is the type of BBQ that I like. Their ribs were amazing and the bean and coleslaw sides delicious.
Staff were welcoming and help set the atmosphere. The setting is incredible and can't wait to return on a warmer day. Definitely a stand out restaurant in this area and excellent value.
