My friends and I dined here last evening. We were the last table seated on a Monday and had the restaurant to ourselves. The owner/chef walked us through the menu and offered suggestions. The pasta dishes were made table side which was a treat. The salt baked fish from the Mediterranean was exceptional. This is a hidden gem in Palm Coast/Flagler. The service was as good as the dishes. Make sure to save room for the desserts. We enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend the Osteria.
I have been to Osteria Rustica several times and have dished out a few gift certificates too, but I've never written a review, until now. I'm not Italian, but you don't have to be Italian to know good Italian food. Osteria has yet to disappoint. The menu here is versatile enough to accommodate all with plenty of mid priced and high end entrees including daily specials. The meet and greet is part of the shtick so I suggest you just roll with it. I find the staff to be passionate, professional and ready to welcome any customer that walks in the front door. In my opinion, this small, family run establishment delivers on all fronts... service, vibe and flavor.
We decided to see what all the rave was about from all the positive reviews on this restaurant and we are Italian so yes we know what true Italian food should taste like. That being said, we were a little disappointed.
First the tables are quite close to each other and we could not hold a conversation without being overheard by the entire place as they are sitting less than 2 feet away from you. Or listening to other conversations that we wanted no part of. Second the portions are very little for what you pay for, we had one appetizer, two entrees and two glasses of wine. The seafood appetizer was literally 8 black mussels, 6 clams, half of squid and one shrimp boiled with a drizzle of sauce. My veal was maybe 6 oz of meat with a drizzle of marsala and a quarter squash and half a carrot. The fish was 6 to 8 oz filet and 3 oz scoop of rice, 4 oz of lobster bisque drizzled over that and 3 oz of veggies. Our bill was over 100 dollars! We left hungry.
The food was cooked properly but the taste is far from authentic. I suppose if you are used to Olive Garden this is a slight step above that but not worth the money at all. The cook or host came to our table and spoke for a few minutes as with the other tables but it seems like its part of the show. The other tables enjoyed the interaction with him but he was trying too hard with the Italian accent and kissing everyone cheek to cheek. Its more of a theme restaurant than a actual Osteria that you truly find in Italy. Italians know that the kitchen and food is the center of attention in a home or an Osteria. Well, lesson learned. I was fooled once into trying this place with all the reviews but never again.
